Laundry Room Update (& things just got a little easier around here)

Laundry Room Update (& things just got a little easier around here)

If you remember my previous post about my closet turned laundry room, you probably recall how this “room” used to look like this.

AStoriedStyle.comWe took part of my husband’s closet to make this area a little bigger, and it has been great to have a good laundry space upstairs since that is where all of the bedrooms are.  I have been wanting to decorate it a little more intentionally, and I knew I needed something smashing in there lighting wise.  This is an area of my home that can feel dark since it is off a long hallway, and the light I had before was not cutting it.

A few weeks ago, I found this chandelier on Ebay, and I fell in love.  I have seen many, many bamboo chandeliers in my life, but I have never seen one like this.

The bells, the fretwork design at the top, the total design immediately gripped me.  The chandelier came, and I loved it even more.  I pondered painting it a fun color, but I like a laundry space to be light and bright and well, clean looking.  Therefore, for now, it is staying the original creamy white color.

Although I liked these cute Anthropologie knobs I had in here before, I wanted something with a little more pizzazz.

At an estate sale at least a year ago, I found a set of twelve of these awesome, vintage Greek key brass pulls, for $12.  Uh yeah, I immediately snagged them.  I’ve held onto them, and though I have had a few ideas, it struck me that I should put them in the laundry room in the place of the knobs.  After a quick clean (you can see the before and after below), I was super excited to see how pretty they were.

I’m so happy with how they look against the wallpaper.  They added so much style to such a little space in such little time.  : )

My favorite decorative item I added to the space was a canvas of my husband’s grandparents on their honeymoon in the 1940’s.  It makes me happy every time I see it, I like to see them smiling at me.  : )  Aren’t they the sweetest?  Happily married over sixty years now.

I still have a few things I want to do in here – add a wall drying rack, build a shelf next to the washer and dryer, and organize the cabinet space a little better.  (I’m thinking slide-out hampers for organizing, wouldn’t that be great?!)  But for now, these few little updates have made it a happier place to be.  I feel good in here.  Even when I’m matching socks.

If you’ve been following along for awhile, you know that 2013 was a pretty crazy year for our family.  Amongst other things, I had a few surgeries.  My husband has really had to pick up a lot since Mommy has been in and out of commission, and I will tell you, he has done awesome.  With four little ones, we have a ton of laundry to do every week, and rather than me having to tell/remind him to put the detergent in plus fabric softener plus stain remover, I can save us time and energy and frustration by using these new Tide Pods/Gain Flings.  They are literally a three-in-one, one-stop shop for all of your washing needs.

I tried these out on some serious grass stained baseball pants, and it really did work great!  Plus it smells really, really good.  I can actually tell you the first time I ever smelled Gain.  I had to borrow some sheets from our dear friends and neighbors (why, I cannot recall), and they smelled so amazing, I called to ask her what she used.  The rest is history.  I love that smell.  (thanks KellyKay!)

If you are a Target shopper and a bargain lover, you can even text CLEAN to Target (827438), and you will get coupons to use!  You can seriously be strolling in Target, look up this post on your phone, text CLEAN to 827438, get the coupon for TidePods/Gain Flings (and more!), and use it at the cash register in two minutes.

So there you have it, my laundry room is prettier, and my responsibility load is a bit easier.  Life is good.  See you Monday.

P.S.  We love you, Granny and Papa Zack.

I think you are right, that is one of the best bamboo chandy’s I’ve seen. And that vintage hardware is just perfect!

Love those Greek Key knobs! They look so great in the room. And I agree with your comment that adding a little bit of updates can make a space a happier place. I recently updated and organized my laundry room, and it is amazing how adding some color to the room made washing clothes a little less of a chore.
