Welcome to my entryway!

Quick note I forgot to mention yesterday on the curtains…I used the curtain rods the previous owners left.  I simply raised them to right underneath the crown molding to draw the eyes upwards.

Immediately to the right of the front door, there is a pair of vintage theater seats.  You can see a portion of them in the picture above.  The cute little pillow is from one of my favorite local stores, Simple Things.  You can check out the Simple Things blog here.

I love this idea because what you need by a front door is an area to set things, a place for people to put their purses when they come in, etc.  The theater seats are not super functional for regular seating, but they fold down when I need a resting place for something, and fold up to be out of the way in a narrow space.  After I bought this pair at a local junk store, I looked at the underside of the seats and found an inscription: “Baptist Orphans Home 1908”.

I even like the gum souvenir!  It just makes these seats feel more interesting, more special.  They have history to them rather than a bench purchased at a big box store.

The mirror hanging above the theater pair is a vintage Syroco piece.  These old Syroco pieces look so great painted in a glossy color – syroco wood is a type of pressed wood, and is very lightweight.  A quick spray painting job turned this faded gold mirror into a bright white beauty.  You can easily find vintage Syroco mirrors, sconces and wall hangings by searching “syroco” on Ebay, Etsy, or your local CraigsList.

Ahhhhhhh, my yellow doors.  I do love them.  Yellow is a difficult color to find the right shade of…it can be too mustard, too lemon, too pastel, too gold, the list continues.  But I finally found the perfect shade for my doors – Benjamin Moore’s Inner Glow.

These crystal doorknobs are original to my home.

You probably noticed our “thinking chair”.  When I saw this at the flea market, I fell in love with it.  I believe a beautiful chair helps the kids think more clearly about how to change their behavior, ha.

The lovely armoire has been in my husband’s family for at least 150 years, and made the trip from Virginia to Texas in a covered wagon.

I found the antique runner at an estate sale and immediately knew it was perfect for my home.  I have become rather particular about rugs in recent years, and though this took some negotiating to get the price where I needed it to be, this beauty came home with me!

The pair of white gourd lamps are from Lowes, where I found them in the clearance section.  I purchased them for $19.99 WITH shades!

After staring at this blanc de chine/bamboo/floral stool on Ebay for weeks, I finally bought it, and I am so happy I did.  I have yet to see another one like it, and I adore the shape and detail.

Before I was part of Gypsy Soul Interiors, I was a big fan of Kristen Dowd’s items.  I bought this pair of benches from her before we were working together.  Side Note:  check out our awesome items here, or as always, you can click the “Available Pieces” tab at the top of A Storied Style’s home page!  We have a small pair of benches like these right now!

Behold, the after!  I upholstered the pair in this yellow ikat (pronounced ee-kot) fabric from Pottery Barn, and piped them in a gray fabric that was a remnant from another project.

You can use either side of this fabric depending on whether you want a yellow background or a white background.  Sarah Richardson opted for the yellow background on her benches as seen here.

Benches like these are so great when you are entertaining because you can pull them up for seating, or place a tray on them and have an instant place for people to set drinks and plates while they are conversing.

The console we have in the entryway is also an estate sale find.  This bamboo chippendale piece is stunning, but it took me about two hours to clean!  Sixty years of grime, several dirty rags, and an empty bottle of cleaning solution later, the lovely detail was revealed.  I used to have the West Elm parsons console in its place, but it has since been moved to another project to be unveiled at a later date.

Apparently, little critters like our entryway also!  We left our door open while talking on the front porch one night, came back in, locked the door, and proceeded to the living room when we caught a glimpse of this little guy.  Yes, it’s a possum.  This is Texas!
