I will tell you, I love trim. I stand in the aisle of the home improvement store and stare at it, dreaming what I can do with it. In this next year, I want to plan out and draw a trim project for every ceiling of every room. More on that later...
For the past few years, I have loved rooms that are cream or white with painted, colorful trim. It's a nice change from the typical wall color and white trim. In fact, I tried to work this concept in my own home when I was trying to figure out my dining room. It just didn't work out, but in my mind, the color story would have been similar to the gorgeous photo below. (note that ceiling!!!)

Of course, is there anything as classic as black? If you want instant elegance, paint your walls white, and your trim and doors black. I find this works especially well in newer homes that need a little added character.

All we ever hear these days in design is about mixing things up, right? "Don't buy the matching furniture set at the furniture store, mix hardware, have a surprise color pop in a room"...but if there has been something matchy-mathy that has been beautiful since the beginning of time, it is coordinating fabric and wallpaper. It is a classic style choice, and while I may not advise it for every room, I think it can work in the right space.
Check out these beautiful photos for ideas, plus how I changed up my dining room recently with this style in mind.

2. How To Paint A Fun Geometric Wall - I think this could look so great in a teenage boys room or really anywhere! I love a good, simple DIY! ( I could not find a source for the life of me, but the photo explains it pretty well.)
