Greetings from New York!  I’m here for a quick trip (coming home tomorrow) because I am one of Better Homes & Gardens 50 Stylemakers 2013!  I am very honored to be here and will spend the day today with the other 49 ladies and gents, plus the editors for Better Homes & Gardens (including their newest editor, none other than Mr. Eddie Ross, the amazing lifestyle designer and flea market to gorgeousness extraordinaire).  The workshop today and party tonight should be great fun.

If I were to pen a letter to New York City, it would probably be about food.  Seriously, the food is so good here.  Everything.  How can you eat at a Chipotle in NYC?  Here, for example, is my dessert from yesterday (actually one of my desserts from yesterday, ha!  I had one at lunch AND dinner, woohoo!)  It is a chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream, and it was AH-mazing.  (I was at “Markt” on 21st & 6th in Chelsea for those of you that are interested)

Last night, I checked off a bucket list box when I attended New York Ballet’s “Swan Lake”.  I have always wanted to see a ballet in New York, and there has never really been time when I have been here before.

Dance was a significant part of my life for over twenty years (have I ever mentioned that?); in fact, I was still taking classes when I became pregnant with my first son!  The sound of the pointe shoes on the stage thrilled my heart, and the ballet itself lived up to all of my expectations and more.  It was so beautiful, I was literally moved to tears.  The beauty and strength of dance is a very powerful art to me.

But let’s get to what I wore…

I wore the yellow shirt and black pants on the plane, and it was easy to dress them up for the ballet.

Yellow Silk Shirt:  Banana Republic

Wool Mint Green Blazer:  Banana Republic

Black Ankle Pants:  Anthropologie

Leopard Faux Hide Shoes:  DSW

Sequined Hat:  Vintage

Acrylic Clutch: Forever 21

Beaded Clutch Inside Acrylic Clutch:  from high school, probably Foleys (back when it was Foleys)

I need to get ready for my day, but I was thinking last night…if “Swan Lake” could be a room, it would be this one from Elle Decor.  Textured, dreamy, romantic, and mostly white with a touch of darkness.

Congrats on being a BHG style maker!
Often I am nodding my head in agreement when I read your posts. To bad I live on the other side of the country from you because, according to CS Lewis’s quote, we could so be friends;)
I also danced ballet for many years…quit in college…started again a few years later by taking an adult class through my city’s professional ballet company…then quit again when I had my first son.
I love that you compared the ballet with a beautifully designed room. It shows that inspiration can come from anywhere.
Now where did I put my pointe shoes?

Frances, your comment was so kind, and I love to meet fellow dancers at heart. 🙂 I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of that – comments mean so much to me, and people are so busy nowadays that they don’t take the time to reach out as much (I’m guilty of this, too). All that to say, I loved hearing your story.

Ha on the pointe shoes! 🙂 I think I’m going to have to pull mine down fro the attic when I get home!
