Right Down the Middle: Racing Stripe Upholstery

I am feeling super drawn to racing stripe upholstery as of late.  (one prominent stripe down the middle)  I am dying to use this in a client’s home, or heck, my home!

Of course, you don’t have to stick to one stripe.  You can always have some fun with it!

Assuredly, you can add your racing stripe to anything that needs pizzazz!  Do you have an old wood bed frame that needs a revamp?

Hello, stripe it!

And when you get tired of the color, you can easily change it!

Do you need a little racing stripe somewhere in your home?

Could you do this on a Chesterfield or would it be too busy?

Anon, I have wondered that…I have never seen it done. I think maybe the tufts would pull the center stripe so it is not straight? But I suppose a good upholsterer could make it work…maybe? I’m going to ask my guy, I’ll get back to you!

I like this look for the settees too, like the hickory chair pic.

Hi Husband, I pondered this too. I think the wide stripe in the center would look awesome on those!

This post is so timely! I’ve been looking for fabric to reupholster my dining room chairs and I have pinned or cut out several pictures of wide single stripes. Just love it! Question….do I have to have it made, or are there several designers/companies you recommend who carry a wide stripe fabric? I’ve seen Serena and Lily’s, but wasn’t sure if most of these were pictured here were pieced together? I’m sure the really wide striped sofas were, and I know the Things that Inspire pic was two fabrics. Just want to see if I can cut down on my research time! would love any advice you have on where to look! Thanks

Alex, having the fabric made would be costly because of the time. I think your best bet would be to find a wide stripe that you love (whether it is horizontal or vertical doesn’t matter, you can turn it), and go for it! I don’t know of a wide stripe offhand, but let me look around for ya! xoxo, G

Grace, I’ve been hunting for 2 days for fabric like this and can’t find so if you have any leads, would love to hear about them. I love the linen chair with the navy stripe (coveting.com). Thanks!

Hi Rebecca, I don’t know that you can really find fabric like this as much as you just need to find two fabrics you love and have the upholsterer piece it together with the preferred contrast stripe in the middle. That is actually what I am planning for my own project like this. Hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else! G
