Large Scale, Feather Wallpaper

Large Scale, Feather Wallpaper

If you are a Downton Abbey fan like me (see this post), and are dying to get into another season, I have hope for you.  I have a way to curb the eagerness, to make the wait until NEXT YEAR (argh!!) a little easier.

Call the Midwife iTunes

BBC has created something beautiful, yet again, with their series, “Call The Midwife”.  The stories are taken from Jennifer Worth’s memoirs about her time as a midwife in the poverty-stricken East end of London in the late 1950’s.  Her tales touch deeply; at times, funny, and at times, gut wrenching.

It has been my new laundry folding and bathtub watching series, and I made it through the first season fast!  But hey, the laundry was done, too.

Of course, you don’t come here for my reviews of television series so let’s get to the point.  Take a look at this screenshot from the second episode of season 2, where I stopped in my tracks at this graphic feather wallpaper on the walls.

It’s delightfully bold and large in scale.

You can see in this shot that the colors vary and are layered, but I like the thought of the large feather on a solid background best.

Unlike Downton Abbey, I don’t have to tell myself to pay attention to the storyline due to distraction by beautiful gardens and interiors.  This series is more about the facets of love and the stories of the people, and less pomp and circumstance.  Nevertheless, I set out in search of a wallpaper that could catch my attention like the pattern in “Call the Midwife.”

A few years ago, Ferm Living’s Feather Wallpaper, had its fifteen minutes in the blogosphere, and I still appreciate the richness of the blue in it.

It looks a little darker here, almost black.  I could only find it in one colorway – it may just be the photo.

Perhaps this type of pattern is best left to an accent wall?

Although these people went all out, and it is pretty fabulous.

I didn’t recall this image from Domino, but it is so beautiful.  Quite the mysterious, exotic feel.

This wallpaper pattern, featured in BHG, may just be my favorite.  I am a sucker for that shade of blue, and the gold, oversized feathers are whispy and romantic.  I totally love this.

This Venetian style wallpaper (reminds me of marbled paper, which I adore) is mesmerizing.  Gorgeous!

This is quite the find – an Etsy seller who will handprint your wallpaper in any two or three colors you choose!  The possibilities!!!

Which is your favorite?

P.S.  I bought the entire first season on Amazon Videos of “Call the Midwife” for $6.99 (non HD). You can find the HD version here for $2.00 more. Of course, you can always buy the DVD.  The second season is online for free at the PBS website until June 18th.  Happy watching!

P.P.S.  Twenty dollars to any reader who can identify the wallpaper in the BHG photo and Domino photos.  Okay, maybe not.  But you will get major props.  MAJOR.

I’ve seen that show on Netflix and wondered if I’d like it as I’m having hard core Downton withdrawal. Thanks for the tip!! And the wallpaper – stunning!

Love this post. I think the Domino paper is Florence Broadhurst.

gorgeous! i love the simpler versions…like the version in the call the midwife show (which I also love!). i’m thinking you could do an easy version if you wanted…maybe find a large feather stamp and some gold paint?

Emily, you are a woman after my own heart…finding a way to make this yourself. 🙂 You are so right though, I could! I wonder where I could find a stamp big enough? Maybe you would have to have it made? Hmmm…my wheels are turning! Thank you so much for the comment! G

I recently started watching Call The Midwife and I am all caught up with with Season 2. I am a huge Downton Abbey fan, but dare I say it……I think I like Call The Midwife even better—gasp!!!!!!!
And, I too have noticed all the cool wallpaper, on many episodes. Hope the set designer knows they are doing a good job!

Emily (LadyEm), gasp is right! Don’t worry, we won’t tell. 😉 I know, once I noticed that feather wallpaper, I always watch out for other pretty patterns. Did you see the episode where the baby died, and they were in a funeral home I think, and the beautiful swallow wallpaper was on the walls? It looked so ethereal!

Thanks for the tip on Call The Midwife. It’s hard waiting around for the next season of Downton. Love the wallpapers, and I can’t wait to watch and be on the look out for the feathered wallpaper!

Sharon, I totally feel your pain. Literally, Downton Abbey is the only show we watch. Okay, actually, my husband and I will sit down and watch Duck Dynasty, too. Total opposite ends of the spectrum, ha! But I think you will like CTM – so good! Of course, now all of its episodes are over until the Christmas special, argh. 😉 But I’ve heard Jeremy Piven’s BBC series, Mr. Selfridge is pretty good? I may try that next. 🙂
