DIY Halloween Costume: Butterfly Fairy Hair & Makeup

DIY Halloween Costume: Butterfly Fairy Hair & Makeup

Are you thinking about kids Halloween costumes yet?  A fun week is ahead on AStoriedStyle because for the next few days, I will be sharing a Halloween costume from Pottery Barn Kids and a simple DIY to go along with each one!

My three year old daughter has recently changed her favorite color from pink to purple so when we saw this Butterfly Fairy costume, she was beyond excited.  Since it already comes with a wand, wings, and a crown, there wasn’t much accessorizing to do.  Therefore, I knew we could have fun with hair and makeup.

After some brainstorming, I knew I wanted her to have “antenna hair” so I played around and came up with this tutorial for you.  It is really easy and looks super darling!

Now that the antenna hair was done, on to the face decor!  Using this set of face paint crayons (I really like the pearl colors because they have a bit of sparkle to them) and this set of stick-on assorted shape gems, I created the butterfly fairy look I was envisioning.  My daughter looooved it!!

I was going for the Drew Barrymore in Ever After look, but in a more juvenile way.  “Breathe, just breathe.”  (ha!)

The crayons glided on really well (it is so annoying when they are “sticky”, know what I mean?), and the gems stuck on and stayed on all day.  Very happy with them!  And happy to be your guinea pig.  We also *may have* dabbed a little in eye shadow, a teensy bit of mascara (girlfriend’s eyelashes are WHITE!), and shiny lip gloss.  We didn’t have any fun at all.

She. had. a. ball.  And I took oh, about two million pictures.  Can I just tell you, too, how beautifully made this costume is?  Seriously, I was impressed when I examined it.  It is very well done.  Those wings are gorgeous on their own!

The above pictures are lovely, though in all truth, this is a bit more real life.
