Project #CAMERAREADYINTERIORS

AStoriedStyle.com

I’m excited to be partnering with 23 talented interior designers today in an event to celebrate the photographers that bring our work to life.

It might be interesting to do a post someday on what it is really like to do an interiors shoot.  I think people would be surprised at just how much goes into every detail.  One room can take a full day’s worth of natural light.  It is a shoot, tweak, shoot, tweak, shoot, move it back, shoot, tweak, somewhat exhausting process.  You have to exaggerate angles of furniture (for it to read right in the photo) and move rugs and make sure every image shows cohesiveness and flows together well.  It is a true art form.

A space can be beautiful and very well designed, but it is really in the photographer’s hands to make it shine and produce photos encapsulating the vision the designer had of the space.  It involves trust and a mutual respect between designer and photographer.  I am very grateful to the photographers that have worked with me along the way, but I wanted to take today to write about the photographer who I have most recently worked with, Brian McWeeney.

I heard about Brian from my friend, Cassie, who knew him because he shot her house for Better Homes & Gardens.  It took me all of two seconds to know I liked him very much.  The first shoot we ever did together involved getting good photos of my four rowdy kids, which is a feat of its own.  I know because I take pictures of them all the time, and it takes about 500 to get a good…one.  ; )

Brian has such a calm “we can do this and it will be great” demeanor, and his thoughtfulness and persistence in getting the right shot is really comforting as a designer.

His wife, Carolyn, who is a talented photographer herself, took these behind the scenes photos at one of our shoots, and they are such a fun keepsake of this joyful and crazy time in our lives.

P.S. This post is coming to you from my hotel room in NYC.  I’m in New York for the next few days for the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker event, and it has been a whirlwind the last couple of weeks getting everything ready and shooting some projects I am really excited about.  I have a new site debuting soon (which has been a long time coming!), and there is so much to look forward to.  Thank you so much for reading along here.  Be sure to check out the other amazing designers featured below (I’m in good company today!) who are participating in the #camerareadyinteriors event.  The hashtag #camerareadyinteriors will also have some eye candy on Instagram.  A big thank you to Jana Bek for putting all of this together to honor the photographers we love.
