Secret Sources: Navy Cut Velvet Fabric

I love a good cut velvet fabric.  The weight and thickness of a quality silk velvet makes for a luxurious textile indeed.  While I have long admired Koplavitch & Zimmer’s (a high end, to the trade textile house) “Panthera” pattern, its $400 a yard price had kept me away.  I have been particularly drawn to the “Navy” color way, since I am after all, a lover of blue.  You can buy this fabric for around $100 a yard here, which is awesome, but a few months ago, while poking around on Ebay, I found this fabric.

Yes, it looks different in the photo, but computers do crazy things to fabrics and hues, so I thought I would try it.  I needed a yard of it to make two pillows that would give a little edge to my very traditional 1920’s library.  I paid my nearly $30 (hello STEAL!), and friends, I was amazed when I pulled it out of the bag.

I believe it is the same fabric.

I love how the new pillows look on my vintage “cup chairs”, as they are lovingly called around here, that we recovered in a camel leather a year or so ago.  This fabric is so lovely, and the navy velvet with the pops of aqua blue in the center look terrific together.

Normally, my “Secret Sources” posts are look-alike items,  but like I said before, I really think this is the Koplavitch fabric being sold for less than $30 a yard.  Wowza, this is quite the deal.

It looks like they only have 12 or so yards left so I would jump on it, but I made sure I ordered it for my client before I posted it on the blog, ha.  ; )

Hint:  You can make an offer for an even better price.

This fabric is fabulous, snatch it up!

I purchased that same fabric last year and love it – except I got it for about $19 per yard here:

PS – HouseFabric is always such a great resource! I like how they say it is “eco-friendly”, too. 🙂 (??)

Haha, yes I noticed that, too! I guess they mean because it’s not made from real leopard? Who knows! But I do love that fabric!

HA!! That made me laugh – yes, definitely not real leopard, too funny.

Gosh, I have been looking for a good patterned fabric for my master curtains. I am going to race home after work to measure my windows! If only the $20/yd had more than 2 yards.

Go Dominique, GO! Good luck, let me know how it turns out!

Have a pair of tufted club chairs that would benefit from that beautiful leather! Is it real or faux??

    • Grace June 26, 2014 at 9:54 am #

Hi Kelsey, it is real! I used that exact leather on some client’s chairs a couple of years ago, and I loved it so much, I ordered some for myself a few months later! This leather would look beautiful tufted – it is a distressed camel leather, and it is gorgeous! I like it because it can take some wear and tear and not look like it due to the distressing. Hope that helps! G

        Hi Grace,
Love the fabric on the pillows and the leather on the chairs!! Do you have a source for your leather? Thanks so much!

        • Grace June 30, 2014 at 3:49 pm #

Hey Autumn, gosh, that was so long ago. Let me try to look it up and get back to you, okay? It was a fab company, I’d love to give them some business!

Hey Grace! I too wanted to know if you found the leather source? I have two chairs that would look beautiful re-covered. Thanks!
