Addition Update – Stucco, Outside Lighting, THE Opening, & Tile

Work has resumed on our addition, and we are starting to get excited about this project again!  We are in month nine now, hard to believe.  Well, it is hard to believe…and not.   But I thought I would share some progress with you!

One of the biggest changes as of late has been the stucco added to the outside!  It is so so cool to watch something you have drawn on paper come to life.  If you’ll remember, it looked like this.

And now, it looks like this!

Parks Plaster & Stucco did the stucco work for us, and we could not be happier with it!  Plus owner Joey was wonderful to work with!  After this project, I am happy to give glowing recommendations to people who do their job right!

The detailing turned out so beautifully.  (the color is not really this yellow in real life, it is a pretty cream)

They matched our outside paint color (which is Valspar Churchill Navajo White) to the stucco color so it would flow seamlessly.

Pre-stucco.

And after.

Outside lighting is difficult to choose, and we went back and forth about it.  It was either too cheap looking or when I found one I liked, too expensive.  In every project, unless your budget has no boundaries (which ours definitely has boundaries), there is a bit of give and take when it comes to elements you put in the space.  I would just rather get a better sofa than spend extra on outdoor lighting, ya know what I mean?

Therefore, after searching a few big box stores (and buying and returning and buying and returning), we settled on the Portfolio Brayden collection at Lowes for the sconces and the hanging light above the door.

The sconces turned out really pretty!

We like the hanging light over the door, too!  (Do you spot how we get in and out of the room?  That little bench has been handy, but there will soon be a little deck there with steps.)

Moving inside, we ordered our flooring, and I am so excited to see it installed when it gets here!  I have always loved herringbone wood floors, but I just didn’t know how practical it would be with the amount of traffic and mud and wet kids this room is going to get.  So we went with tile – beautiful charcoal grey 4″ x 16″ tile that will be laid in a herringbone pattern.

And FINALLY, the opening between the kitchen and the new room is done!  This was super exciting to see, it has been a long time coming!

In this image, you can see what it looked like before.

And here it is now!

Yup, that’s my kitchen right there.  And that is consequently why half of my kitchen is packed up and in the living room.

Next week is insulation and drywall!

Yay! I’m so happy for you and the progress! What fun you’ll have and I can’t wait to see it fully done! You will make it beautiful! I love how the new space united with your current kitchen so well.

Kat, thanks! It is really fun to really get to put your mark on something from the ground up. (though this has been our most challenging project for sure!) I’m glad you like where it unites with the kitchen, I’m a bit stumped on that area, but I’m sure it will come together. xoxo, G
