Making Memories – Detail Photos of Our Porch Makeover

I have so many great photos from my porch makeover, thanks to the lovely Kat of  Since I couldn’t put all of them in my article, I thought it would be fun to share them here.

We didn’t let the kids see our newly revamped porch until they ran out for these pictures.  They were so excited and kept talking about how beautiful it was.  It was very fun and exciting.

Seeing her in her sunshine yellow tulle skirt with her apron and pigtails completely melts my heart.  If you follow me on Twitter (please do!), you probably saw my tweet about me “watching a Lifetime movie and being reminded about how terrified I am sometimes to have teenage daughters”.  Eeks, wish she could stay two forever.  (Oh wait, she’s turning three today, sigh)

By the way, this is how she eats raspberries.  Always.  She thinks it is hilarious, of course.

And this was published in the original article, but how handsome are the men in my life?  Yup, I’m a lucky gal.

Let me tell you, these photos were taken nearly two months ago, and those quirky, beautiful billy balls are still on my table, and they look great!  Love them!

Isn’t that milk bottle adorable?  It looks vintage, but it is not!  I got it from World Market, and the kids think it is so fun to use it.  By the way, the wood charger is from World Market, too.

I will admit that we did “Pancakes on the Porch” for lunch the day we did this photo shoot.  The kids were soooo hungry as it was past lunchtime, and they gobbled their pancakes right up.

It took a great deal of work to get this makeover together, but I am so thankful for this space as a pretty, restful place to gather our family.  A few trips to the hospital the past couple of weeks with my oldest son have reminded me how precious these times and days are.  We always tell ourselves that, right?  These days are few, I need to treasure them, cherish these beautiful moments.  The truth is, yes, there are wonderful moments, but then there is laundry and bills and crying babies and laundry and bills and spills and taking your screaming child out of a restaurant and laundry and bills and trips to the ER and blowout diapers on the way to church and spit up in your hair.  This is Life, and it makes silly moments, happy moments, tender moments, teaching moments, all the sweeter.  I’ve been talking to my kids this week about something my Mom taught me – making memories.  Taking sensorial inventory of special moments you are in and cementing them in your brain, making snapshots you want to remember.  I hope these times on our porch are happy childhood memories for them.

Hope you make some memories this weekend!

I love it all but my favorite parts are the little yellow dress and the berry fingers. Tell her I think it’s hilarious, too 🙂

Those memories are so important. It is so easy to get dragged done by the mundane things that we have in life and just keeping ourselves and families afloat. But, those special times with our husband’s and children help to bring everything in perspective. Keep up the GOOD work. You are doing great things with your design and it looks like you are well on your way to growing some great adults too!

Sheri, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m glad you appreciated my sentimentality. I try to keep my blog “pretty” and free of real-life problems because I figure my readers have enough real-life problems and just want to escape for a few moments and read about all things light and cheery. I have an inward debate with myself often about what to share and what not to share, so I’m happy you understood what I was trying to say. Thank you so much for reading and your thoughtful comment, G

I wish this had been a contest… you would have gotten my vote! I love everything about this. Moreover, I loved your verbalization of keeping it real with laundry and bills and kids and life and memories – it is part of what makes this space so alluring.

Susan, ahhhh, so kind! Especially considering all of the great spaces that have been posted! I’m happy you appreciated my comments, I try to keep the blog light, but I’m also a person trying to keep everything together and running smoothly just like everyone else. 🙂 Thank you for commenting! G

So beautiful. I love, love the chandeliers, the blue rug and the yellow and blue color palette. And all the plants give it such a fresh look. Thanks for sharing!

Anna, thank you so much! The chandeliers were a last minute addition. I really debated about them, but in the end, I decided they look better there than on the floor of my garage. 🙂 So happy you liked it! G

Great post and beautiful space. Where did you find the pretty yellow stripe fabric? It adds such cheeriness to the area.

    • Grace May 9, 2013 at 10:34 am #

Hi Alex L! I got the yellow striped fabric (which I also LOVE) from one of my favorite fabric resources, Home Fabrics and Rugs. There are maybe three (??) stores total in the US. One here (Texas) outside of Fort Worth, one in Arizona, and one other one I think somewhere else. I have designer friends in other states that literally fly here to go shopping there. It is AWESOME!! Hope you have one near you! G

What a beautiful makeover. I love how the yellow makes everything look so fresh and happy! You have a beautiful family. I’ve been eyeing that table from Home Depot. How is yours holding up?

    • Grace May 16, 2013 at 9:41 am #

Andrea, thank you so much! I LOVE the table. It has held up great, and it wipes easily. I was worried at first that the little rivets in it would get crumbs stuck in it, but it doesn’t! We are really enjoying it, I highly recommend! (And I wouldn’t just say that) 🙂 Thanks for reading! G
